A Sicko Saturday with Clay

I watch a lot of football over the course of the weekend. Many, and by many I mean everyone, would say too much football. When you find what you like though, you go all in and commit.

Do I wish my commitment was something better like doing Iron-man competitions? Yeah. But alas, my affliction, is football and Doritos. God makes us all a bit different.

Anyways, I figured I would take some time and give you running commentary on my entire Saturday, sun up to sun down. Don’t judge me if there are spelling and grammar errors on this bad boy, we are running and gunning.

Running diary on a college football Saturday

7:00 am - Good morning.

Wake up and have one child crying because they are hungry and one child yelling good morning. I may feel like I have been hit by a truck, but it’s the best way to wake up. There are few things more enjoyable than seeing your child’s smiling face first thing in the morning. Sleep is a construct at this point anyways, embrace the chaos.

7:30 - Workout

After getting everyone situated and comfortable, I try to be a good human and work out. I am currently training for a half-marathon at the end of October, but I hurt my foot in training last week. So today it’s time for a bike ride through Fiji on a screen. Not a bad view at least.

8:45 - Double bagel

I am starving. I eat two bagels. They at least are protein bagels and have 11g of protein in them each. Don’t judge me.

9:00 - College Gameday

A tale as old as time, gameday crowds are weaker at the schools that have them often. At a certain point for a school like Alabama the spectacle disappears. Hopefully, it will get bigger as people get situated.

9:10 - Hype man

Pat is standing on a table. I repeat, Pat is standing on a table.  Roll tide roll! People either love pat or hate him. I love him.

9:30 - Coffee

Katie made a coffee run. She got that sweet sweet chai latte. I’m a chai guy. I’m not afraid to admit it.

10:15 - Sam Hartman segment

Every time I hear more about Sam Hartman, the more I love him. The rib necklace is the weirdest, greatest thing of all time.

10:25 - Claire wearing her first ND gear ever.

Proverbs 22:6, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”

11 - Honey do list item

Changing air-filters. Gentlemen, let me give you a word of advice. When it’s gameday, maximize your time. Find the pockets to make your wife and family happy. You can be a bum all day if you are strategic with it.

12:00 - Arrive at parents

The Finklea’s are ready to watch some football. I am the only one nervous about NC State.

12:10 - Yikes.

2 three and outs to start the game. I am terrified of nc states defense. Win and get out is the mission today.

12:20 - OSU and YSU…. Tied at 7.

I’m sure message boards are rational for Buckeye nation.

1:10 - Burger break

My dad has turned into a simple burger connoisseur. Fresh patty, cheddar cheese, Montreal seasoning. Simple, but delicious. The real treat is toasting the buns on the flat top. They get this nice sear on them. So good. We also found a local barbecue sauce that might be my favorite at this point. I don’t even know what it is called, but it’s dang good.

1:38 - Delays stink.

Nebraska also stinks. Why did anyone think they would cover. I know it’s early, it doesn’t matter.

1:52 - Every game is in delay or half

I’m bored. I’m flipping through the channels like going to the fridge when you know there is nothing in there but you are hungry.

2:30 - Clemson is tied with CSU.

When are we going to have a conversation about how good will Shipley actually is? He is totally fine, but I was told he was Christian McCaffery. That just isn’t true.

2:35 - WE ARE BACK

Praise God. I needed to watch Notre Dame. Although I am nervous about this restart. NC State has been aggressive and dangerous so far on defense.

2:37 - 80 yard run!!!!!!! Estime!!!

Well, that was a positive re-start. If you are not watching. First play after an hour and a half weather delays is a 80 yard touchdown run. There feels like there is some spice to that play. During that weather break, Notre Dame had to stay in their wet clothes and didn’t have enough food so the staff had to go buy hot dogs for the players. Not ideal. But it doesn’t matter!

2:47 - Colorado is in an interesting spot.

Yes I love the juice. Yes I love what Prime is doing. Yes I love the spectacle. But, how long until Colorado’s taunting goes from cool to annoying?I give it 3.5 weeks as the over under.

2:55 - Clemson 14- CSU 14 yikes

I could just copy paste what I typed for the Ohio State portion.

3:00 - Block of day 78 Colorado

Trick play, 78 puts some sauce on the finish. It was a great play and block. He will be featured on my socials later this week.

3:43 - The drive for 25 begins again.

What a perverse, college football sicko thing. There is no reason the college football community should be so invested in the Iowa offense. I can’t help, but be completely enamored with watching this ineptitude. It’s truly amazing.

4:09 - Hard rock stadium stinks.

Miami is in a tough spot. Too much to do if you are a college kid, no stadium on campus, it’s not even the main team at the stadium. Just bad all around.

4:45 - I may have convinced Katie for us to get Sunday ticket.

All hail Kirk Cousins.

5:20 - This score is nuts.

Just saw the score of my hometown college’s half time score. Quincy is up 75 to 0 at half. I don’t even know how that is possible. What are they going to finish with?!?!

6:20 - Mario Cristobal is a good coach.

I don’t find his coaching style to be particularly attractive to watch, however it gets results. It’s power football, safe, controlled, and about the trenches. I love 2 out of four of those. Power and trenches are great, conservative is boring. It doesn’t matter though, he wins. Last season was a pruning season for Miami.

6:54 - Ole Miss 56 yarder!!!

College kickers never cease to amaze me. They make the ones they shouldn’t and miss the ones they should.

7:26 - The first Milroe moment

That was a really bad throw by Milroe. Unnecessary throw and pick. This game may come down to his arm. That may be a bad thing.

8:19 - App State is why college football is awesome.

They do such a great job of materializing upset opportunities. They know who they are and know what they can and can’t do. Fantastic finish coming up here in Chapel Hill.

8:30 - Drake Maye is awesome

Oh yeah. Quarterback on the other side is pretty dang good. My favorite QB to watch this year.

8:41 - Never ice a college kicker

Bad move app state. Of course UNC shanks it with game on the line. He’ll make the next one…… Or maybe not. Yeah. College kickers stink.

9:32 - I’ve got a bone to pick with YouTube tv.

Multiple screens was a needed addition to us sports fans. Good idea. Bad execution. I don’t see why I can’t pick the four games I want on my tv. The matchups that you have are alright, but missing some good ones that I need to track.

9:37 - Texas and getting screwed against Alabama, name a better combo.

Wait, never mind. They changed the call.

9:44 - Alabama will never die.

Milroe just threw an absolute bomb. It’s so hard to beat Bama. They just don’t go down easy. Saban is the GOAT for a reason.

9:59 - Well maybe not.

Somehow Texas has scored two touchdowns in like 30 seconds. I think Texas is going to win. But I won’t believe it until I see it. I have thought that Bama was going to lose many times just to be proven wrong. There is always some magic.

10:20 - I was so wrong about Texas Tech

I thought they would get absolutely waxed. They are winning. This is why sports gambling is hard. None of us know anything.

10:37 - Bama jumps offside

I can’t believe it. Texas is going to pull this off.

10:39 - Oregon is going to pull this out.

These last 45 minutes have been absolute chaos with Texas - Alabama, Arizona - MSU, WSU - Wisconsin, Oregon - Texas Tech. My head is spinning around like it’s a Halloween trick. I don’t know where to look and I don’t know who is actually good right now.

10:45 - Coastal.

GREAT win against a spicy opponent. Throw in a weather delay and this could have been a dangerous one. Way to take care of business boys.

11:00 - I’m tired.

Yeah I’m going to watch the end of a few games and go to sleep.

As always. I freaking love football. Thanks for hanging out with me and my thoughts. The NFL starts tomorrow so we got another 10-12 hours to clock in for. Let’s get to work.
